Dolmabahçe Palace is located at the European side of the Bosporus. It was built with the order of the Sultan Abdülmecid in between 1842 and 1853. It has been used as the residence of the Ottoman Sultans in between 1853 and 1922, apart from the times Yıldız Palace has been used as the residence between 1889 and 1909. Atatürk, who is the founder and the first president of Turkish Republic, spent his last years in the Palace. Atatürk died at 9:05 a.m. on November 10, 1938, in a room that is now part of the museum.
Dolmabahçe Palace Museum is closed on Mondays and Thursdays. On other days, the museum is open between 09.00-16:00 hours. Entrance fee is 10 YTL If you would like to see the Harem section you have to pay extra 8 YTL.
